Company History

Good & Tillotson was established as an Architectural practice in 1980 by the principals, Robert Good from Bolton and John Tillotson from Preston. Both Robert Good and John Tillotson were previously partners in the long established 'Robinson Good' partnership, of Bolton.

In 1988 Robert Good retired from the practice, although he continued in a consulting role for a number of years.

John Smalley originally joined the practice as a project architect in 1987, primarily to work on a prestigious new headquarters for Volvo Truck & Bus (UK), in Warwickshire. John then spent 2 years as an associate in the practice before joining John Tillotson as a partner, in 1991.

John Tillotson retired from full time work in the summer of 2001, leaving John Smalley as the sole principal of the practice.

In 2006 Richard Hutton joined Good & Tillotson from the Bolton practice of PBA Design Limited, which was to cease trading. Richard brought with him many years of design experience in many industry sectors, and became an associate in the practice in April 2007.

Russell Woods also became an associate in the practice in 2007, having worked for the business for over 10 years. Russell then joined John Smalley as a junior partner in the practice in April 2008.
